How to Measure the Gear Thickness of Wire Rope Electric Hoist

When it comes to how to maintain products such as electric hoists and wire rope electric hoists, we cannot ignore the wear and tear in some aspects. Taking wire rope electric hoist as an example, this article discusses some methods during maintenance and the inspection of gear components. The reason for gear wear due to the limitation is that the tooth profile deviation and the installation Centre-to-centre distance deviation are too large, which may cause excessive extrusion of the top edge of the gear pair and the transition curve of the tooth root, resulting in severe wear of the fillet of the tooth root. Another form of failure of the transmission gear on the electric hoist with worn steel wire rope is wear, which causes the gear teeth to become thinner after wear.

If there are impurities in the lubricating oil that cause wear, it is generally referred to as abrasive wear. This type of wear often results in deep scratches at the top and root of the teeth, which are perpendicular to the pitch line and parallel to each other. After the scratch occurs, the oil temperature inside the reducer increases, and there is a sharp noise in the gear transmission. At this time, the lubricating oil must be replaced.

If the wire rope electric hoist is overloaded, it often causes a very thin layer of grinding off the tooth root of the driving wheel or the tooth top of the passive wheel. So it is important to maintain a reasonable weight of the lifted goods, at least for the maintenance of wire rope electric hoists. How to measure requires the use of a tooth measuring caliper. Tooth measuring caliper is a comprehensive caliper of Vernier scale and depth gauge, which is used to measure tooth thickness. When measuring, we need to first know its standard height, then adjust the vertical scale of the caliper to that height, and then use the clamp foot on the ruler to clamp the gear teeth, and measure the tooth thickness with a horizontal scale. After the gear of the lifting mechanism reducer is worn, the tooth thickness should not be less than 60% of the original tooth thickness. For the gear of the operating mechanism after wear, the tooth thickness should not be less than 80% of the original tooth thickness. If it exceeds the standard, a new gear should be replaced. These can be measured using a tooth measuring caliper.
